It is not that simple. The Maqamat of Amir-ul-Moazzem Hariri Urdu is the most important text for tajalliyat of the maqama literature. It was brought into Syria by Hazrat Abu Abd ar-Rahman Jaziri who found it in Jazirah, Iraq after his return from pilgrimage in 1381 AH/1962 CE. He began publishing them during the period 1970-1975 CE. As per Dr. Abdullah Jairazbhoy, the present edition is most probably of his publication. Maqamat has been translated into Persian by Maulana Saeed Ahmad Khan of Delhi. But the only available English translation is very poor and lacks understanding of Urdu maqama shastra. It is necessary to publish English translation of Hariri’s Maqamat with proper notes in which all the forms of maqama are discussed.
"Maqamat" are written in found poetry, which comprises couplets rhyming in a particular manner. They are also written in rhymed prose, and this is the most common mode of writing. Like Masnavi, they contain many references to earlier poets.1. Maqamat Harti
